CHAPTER call to ACTION

The mission of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. Most volunteer work for the Daughters of the American Revolution is accomplished through a committee system. Committees not only make our chapter successful, they are truly the best way for Daughters to have an opportunity to get to know the other chapter members, contribute to the DAR and the community. Whether you are a working woman, retired, a stay-at-home mom, or an active grandmother, El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, offers many opportunities for you to be involved.

American History/Youth Contest Committee

The purpose of the American History/Youth Contest Committee is to promote American history throughout the year by honoring significant historical people, places, dates, and events. The committee conducts the American History Essay contest, the DAR Good Citizens, and the DAR Youth Citizenship Contest. All contests are open to students in public, private, parochial schools, and registered home-study programs.

Commemorative Events Committee

The purpose of the Commemorative Events Committee is to encourage chapter members to participate in one community commemorative event a year, promoting a major event in American history. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, participates in the Templeton community's Independence Day Parade.

Conservation Committee

The purpose of the Conservation Committee is to promote protecting and conserving our natural resources, and to encourage chapter members to participate in one community environmental event a year, promoting conservation awareness. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, supports the Penny Pines reforestation project. Under a conservation agreement, El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, contributes funds toward the cost of planting seedlings on one acre of national forest land in California.

Constitution Week Committee

The purpose of the Constitution Week Committee is to honor the historical events surrounding the establishment of the Constitution and the men who framed the document. The committee is encouraged to seek a signing of a Proclamation by mayors and local officials, designating September 17-23 as Constitution Week.

DAR Project Patriot Committee

The purpose of the DAR Project Patriot Committee is to support America’s service members and their families. The Daughters of the American Revolution recognize their sacrifices and service to our nation. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, through Project Patriot, supports donations sending care packages to deployed service members. 

DAR School Committee

The purpose of the DAR Schools Committee is to promote education. The Daughters of the American Revolution supports five schools: one DAR school and four DAR-approved. 

DAR Service For Veterans Committee

The purpose of the DAR Service for Veterans Committee is to support and honor America's veterans. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, supports Wreaths Across America, and the laying of wreaths at Templeton District Cemetery. National Wreaths Across America Day is a movement to cover all veterans' grave markers with a holiday wreath.

The Flag of the United States of America Committee

The purpose of this committee is to educate chapter members and the community regarding its correct usage of the American Flag. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, supports the American Flag displays designed and created by the chapter chair. The displays are used to educate and entertain viewers about our flag history and facts. Viewers can use cellphones to get to the music and other information.

Historic Preservation Committee

The purpose of the Historic Preservation Committee is to promote historic preservation projects, saving our history for future generations. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, supports, a mission project at Mission San Antonio de Padua and purchased a bench and DAR plaque of historic preservation at the California State Society Headquarters.

Literacy Promotion Committee

The purpose of this committee is to promote adult literacy and involvement in literacy programs for children and adults. This committee’s goal is to Shine a Light on Literacy as we examine the causes of illiteracy and how we can help fulfill the objectives of this committee.

Service to America Committee

The purpose of the Service to America Committee is to quantify the number of volunteer hours of service chapter members is participating in. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, supports Loaves and Fishes in North County.

Women's Issues Committee

The purpose of the Women’s Issues Committee is to promote awareness of issues affecting women by focusing on health, career, and family. The committee reports a Women’s Issues Minute, promoting the observation of Women’s Issues at the monthly chapter meeting.

Lineage Research Committee

The purpose of the Lineage Research Committee is to assist with the lineage research from linking generations to finding documents in courthouse basements or remote cemeteries. The Lineage Research Committee offers to help with research for prospective members, applications, and member supplemental applications.

Volunteer Genealogists Committee

The purpose of the Volunteer Genealogists Committee is to provide training for chapter members on the current DAR standards of verification, for new member applications and supplemental applications. The committee provides the chapter registrar with assistance, support, and training. El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, has created the "Genie Club," which meets monthly.

Membership Committee

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to promote new membership through recruitment and maintain the current membership. The committee encourages prospectives and members to participate in chapter meetings, events, activities, and committees. The committee is encouraged to serve as chapter member mentors.

Public Relations and Media Committee

The purpose of the Public Relations and Media Committee is for publicizing the chapters’ events and accomplishments to local media as well as to members. You are the link between your chapter and your community. The committee sends electronically a chapter newsletter, maintains social media sites, coordinating links, articles, chapter forms, and promotes DAR activities to encourage DAR membership.

Insignia Committee

The purpose of the Insignia Committee is to promote the guidelines for wearing the DAR Insignia. The Insignia Committee gives a DAR Insignia minute to promote the awareness of pins and description of how to earn a pin. The committee reviews all proposals for new pins.

Volunteer Information Specialists (VIS) Committee                                                      

The purpose of the chapter VIS Committee is to serve as chapter membership contact to inform prospectives and members of El Paso de Robles Chapter, NSDAR, of meetings, events, activities, and committees. The committee creates and maintains a chapter website, performs various computer work as needed by the chapter.
